Softball Ontario, Coaches Association of Ontario and Bill Crothers Secondary School host
3 NCCP Super Clinics
TORONTO, ON - Softball Ontario is pleased to announce its partnership with the Coaches Association of Ontario, Bill Crothers Secondary School in hosting the following NCCP clinics: Learn to Coach, Keep Coaching and Competition-Introduction, Softball (What to Coach) on September 16-18, 2011.
The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is a coach training and certification program for 66 different sports and is offered is both official languages across Canada. NCCP workshops are designed to meet the needs of all types of coaches, from a first-time coach to the head coach of the national team. The NCCP is recognized as the national standard for coach training and certification in Canada. As a part of the program, all coaches are trained in ethical decision-making and sport safety. Softball Ontario is the provider of the NCCP Program for the sport of Softball in the Province of Ontario.
All three (3) Organizations have joined to offer the following Softball NCCP clinics:
NCCP Context: Community Sport – Initiation-Learn to Coach Clinic - 6 hours
If you are coaching Learn to Play, Blastball, Coach Pitch or T-Ball this clinic is ideal for you.
This workshop has been designed for the community softball coach who is working with children or youth and is introducing the basic skills of softball. The focus of this course is:
• Your coaching philosophy
• Making Ethical decisions
• Understanding the rules and equipment of Softball
• Teaching basic skills of Softball
• Modifying a pre-designed practice
NCCP Context: Community Sport – On-Going Participation- Keep Coaching - 15 Hours
If you are coaching House League or House League Select from Junior Mite to Intermediate this clinic is ideal for you.
Coaches encourage participants of all ages to continue in the Sport for fun, fitness, skill development and social interaction. This training allows coaches to help their players to love softball, learn more skills and continue participation.
NCCP Context: Competition - Introduction, Softball – What to Coach 16 hours (1st weekend of 3 weekends)
If your team is participating in a Novice/Pee Wee and above Provincial Championships for PWSA or OASA or Softball Canada Canadian Championship, or ORSA for Ontario Summer Games, this clinic is the first stage of the requirements.
The goals of this course are to promote fun, fitness, fundamentals and performance among the beginning and intermediate coaches who are either coaching youths and/or adults.
What to Coach - 17.5 hours (1st Weekend)
How to Coach - 16 hours (2nd Weekend)
On-Field Evaluation - In developing stage
Preparation - In developing stage
This course replaced the Level 1 and Level 2 Technical/Practical and Theory courses of the old knowledge based program. An evaluation is required as well

Softball Coaches have an opportunity to have their Coach Education funded by the Quest for Gold (Q4G) Enhanced Coaching Program. The Quest for Gold Enhanced Coaching
Program recognizes coaches have out-of-pocket expenses for many things. Coaches who wish to continue their training and education, or increase their knowledge and certification, can directly benefit from this bursary program.
The Quest for Gold program provides an education bursary for higher levels of professional development and training. Up to 75% of course registration fees will be reimbursed for Ontario resident coaches who pass and complete coursework.
Q4G Bursaries can be applied by softball Coaches in any of the following:
National Coaching Certification Program- Competition-Introduction, Softball
• National Coaching Certification Program- Level 3 Theory (Multi-sport)
• National Coaching Certification Program- Level 3 Technical Softball
• National Coaching Certification Program- Competition-Development (Multi-Sport)
• National Coaching Institute-National Coaching Certification Program Level 4 and Level 5)
• Enhanced Coaching Level (3/4/5)
Please note that there are different pre-requisites and application for NCCP courses, the NCI and the Enhanced Coaching.
Softball Coaches are also eligible for travel subsidy under the Quest for Gold Enhanced Funding. Softball Coaches can apply up to a maximum of $200.00 and must travel more than 100 km each way to attend the NCCP training.
