COBOURG -- The Cobourg Dickson Carpet One Clippers competed recently at the Ontario Amateur Softball Association mite provincial championships in Port Perry.
After an early loss, the Clippers were relegated to the 'B' tournament.
In the semifinal game, Cobourg played Springbrook and perhaps taking the opposition too lightly, the Clippers were trailing 9-1 after two innings.
After a bit of a pep talk from coaching staff, the Clippers found their stride in the fourth inning putting five runs on the board, and in the fifth inning, Cobourg pitcher Johnathan Kellar hit a grand slam to help mount the comeback as the Clippers scored nine more runs that inning.
In the final three innings of the ball game, Cobourg outscored Springbrook 22-1.
After the big win, the Clippers traveled across town and to play right away again against an awaiting and rested Napanee team.
While the Cobourg boys played hard in the gold medal game, Napanee prevailed 11-1 .
"Dedication, hard work and awesome parent support made this a very successful season for the boys and as part of the coaching we are very proud of the effort put forth by every player this year," said head coach Tim Whitehead.
